Johannes Vermeer ou Vermeer de Delft (1632-1675) Nasceu e viveu toda sua vida em Delft. Foi o maior pintor da Escola de Delft. Foi sepultado na antiga Igreja de Delft. Foi comerciante de arte, de onde tirava seu sustento. Viveu e morreu na extrema pobreza. A pintura exalta a virtude doméstica. Para estudiosos de sua obra, Vermeer utilizou a câmera escura para ser mais fiel à imagem real. Há cerca de 37 quadros atribuídos a ele.
