Carrie Mae Weems





Carrie Mae Weems (1953-) Nasceu em Portland, Oregon. Graduou-se em 1981 pelo Institute of Arts, Valencia. Mestrado pela Universidade da California, San Diego. Graduou-se em 1987 pelo Program in Folklore, University of California, Berkeley. Carrie discute as relações familiares, identidade cultural, sexo, classe social, sistema político e o poder. Participou de mais de 50 exposições e da Whitney Biennial e da Documenta de Kassel.  É uma ativista da causa dos direitos civis dos negros americanos. Em 2014, retrospectiva no Guggenheim Museum Carrie Mae Weens: Three Decades of Photography and Video. First New York Museum Retrospective for 2003 MacArthur Award-Winning Artist, 2014. Vive e trabalha entre Brooklyn e Syracuse, Nova York. É representada pela Jack Shainman Gallery.
